Slow News Day – big band chart

As recorded by the Upper Austrian Jazz Orchestra in January 2021, this grooving chart includes improvised solos for Guitar, Alto Sax and Trombone. Inspired by the Mike Gibbs composition “And On The Third Day”, this piece features a colourful melody over a slow-building, bluesy chord sequence.

Sting In The Tail – big band chart

“Sting in the tail” is the third and final movement of Ed Puddick’s “Gil Evans Suite” which was commissioned by the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2012. This funky chart was inspired by Gil’s later with pop artist such as the singer Sting in the 1980s. A video of the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra performing this chart is available on YouTube.

Soulful and funky saxophone feature dedicated to the birth place of Northern Soul. Originally composed for Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra and released on the album “Live @ 40” with US saxophonist Eric Marienthal. This chart provides the ideal platform for the saxophone soloist in your band!

This Is How We Roll – big band chart

A swinging bluesy chart with a slow tempo but with double-time sections. Key changes take you from a blues in F to a blues in Bb for the open solo section, concluding with a shout chorus over a blues in B! The ending includes a “Mel Lewis” style drum solo.

Thornhill Bop – big band chart

“Thornhill Bop” is the first movement of Ed Puddick’s “Gil Evans Suite” which was commissioned by the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2012. This is a classic be-bop inspired swing chart featuring the ‘Bird’ and ‘Dizzy’ duo of Alto sax and Trumpet. A video of the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra performing this chart is available on YouTube.
