Ed Puddick leads a group of students from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama to accompany three silent films by Charlie Chaplin. This family friendly show starts at 3pm on Sunday 6th December, 2015.

New piece for String Quartet, Jazz Piano and Bass to be premiered at Colchester on 4th October 2015

“Near Horizons” is a brand new six-movement composition by Ed Puddick for string quartet, jazz piano and bass. This work fuses jazz and classical styles to produce a unique sound world, where improvisation meets composition. The influences behind each movement are rooted in Ed’s experiences growing up in north east Essex with Colchester featuring in many early memories and important events.

Two up-coming gigs in the North West

Summer 2015 is hotting up with two performances of Ed Puddick’s music in the North West of England.

First, on Sunday 21st June at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, the massed choirs of the Greater Manchester Music Hub will be joined by the Greater Manchester Jazz Orchestra to perform Ed’s epic World War One Centenary work “Secret Music”. This piece was first performed in the Royal Albert Hall on Armistice Day 2014. For more information and tickets please visit the Bridgewater Hall website.

Less than a month later, the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra will be premiering “Million Dollar Bill” in their concert as part of the Wigan International Jazz Festival. Ed has written several charts for this high-achieving big band, of which this Billy Strayhorn tribute is probably the most challenging. David Little will conduct the performance which will also include Clifford Brown and Stand Getz tributes “with strings” featuring Paul Booth (tenor sax) and Ryan Quigley (trumpet). “Secret Music” Premiere

On Tuesday November 11th Ed Puddick will attend the Royal Albert Hall to hear the premiere performance of his new composition “Secret Music”, written to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War. 550 children from the Greater Manchester Music Hub will be joined by some of the Northwest’s finest young jazz musicians to play this ground-breaking work for Jazz Orchestra and Children’s Choir. Guildhall School of Music performance of new music

On Thursday 13th November 2014, Ed Puddick is directing the GSMD Jazz Composer’s Ensemble in a performance of music written by staff at the school. As well as brand new compositions by Ed, there will be music from the pens of Malcolm Miles, Stuart Hall, Robbie Robson and many more of their esteemed colleagues, all performed by students currently studying at the school. Royal Albert Hall performance of new work to mark WW1 centenery

On November 11th, 2014, a new work by Ed Puddick will be performed by more than 550 children from the Greater Manchester Music Hub as part of the Music For Youth SCHOOL PROMS. The Royal Albert Hall will be the venue for this world premiere of “Secret Music” – a 13 minute piece for Jazz Orchestra and Choir, based on the poem of the same name by war poet Siegfried Sassoon. Noel Langley launches new website

British trumpet legend Noel Langley has recently launched his new website and proudly lists the Ed Puddick Big Band amongst the star-studded list of artists he has worked with. Noel has been a regular member of Ed’s big band for many years and features on the 2010 album Guys & Dolls which is available from this site. Ed looks forward to working with Noel even more in the future and wishes him the best of luck with his beautiful new album ‘Edentide‘.

These tracks were amongst the highlights of a very enjoyable gig for everyone present. Radio 2 play track from Guys & Dolls

Claire Teal, presenter of BBC Radio 2 Big Band Special chose “Take Back Your Mink” from the Ed Puddick Big Band album ‘Guys & Dolls’ as one of the tracks featured in her programme, which was broadcast on Sunday 17th November.
